The Get Em Mamis - Work

Apart from the fact I love the song and some of The Get Em Mamis other songs, I love the really amateur fashion show in this video. Turn up your speakers!

Picture Me

"We might need to see you without your bra, he told me. I was 14. I didn't even have breasts yet."

Sara Ziff was earning money as a teen model that most people can only dream of. But there was a price to pay. I have to admit I am dying to see this documentary Sara has made depicting a more realistic (and long-overdue) version of life as a model. Just yesterday, I was encouraging 2 friends to send in images of themselves to American Apparel where they scout for "real people" to model their campaigns...

Textiles Design in Dundee.

Congratulations to all the art, design and architecture students (including my lovely Aury whose architectural designs were stunning) at Duncan of Jordanson Art College in Dundee who had their recent degree show. Mine was last year and I remember the nervous anticipation as if it were yesterday.

The textile and jewellery design students put on a fashion show to officially open the degree show. And none other than the elegant supermodel Erin O'Connor turned up to show support (I wish this had happened last year).
Not only that but immediately after the show, Erin ran back stage to place an order for a jacket designed by textile student Hayley Scanlan, describing it as "brilliant and bonkers". Congratulations to Hayley who said she was "blown away" by the prestigious sale of her white leather, studded biker jacket.
I went up to visit the Degree show and was very impressed with this year's textile graduates. In particular this display of men's knitwear by graduate Angela McBride. I loved how she displayed her designs on simple black and white screen prints of models. Very affective, very topman.

NY Tartan Week

So it seems that New York City goes all out for all things Scottish and tartan for one week in April.
One event is the 'Dressed to Kilt' Fashion Show. Watching last year's highlights makes me want to go. Being Scottish, I don't look twice when I see men dressed in kilts (well, it depends on the man) for proms, weddings, or when the National football team plays, but I suppose it is pretty novel.
Robert (a.k.a. Rabbie) Burns Day is also a week today. Last year I didn't have any tartan suitable for a night out so ended up just wearing a Burberry checked scarf (oops, not very Scottish I know). I might go all theatrical this year reminiscent of Vivienne Westwood (above) or Alexander McQueen (below). Next week, I will post my outfit choice for the day.

Mystery catwalk show...

Years ago I cut this image out of a magazine. I remember reading that guests sat at a long white dining table which was then cleared for models to walk down as a runway. I love the chandeliers and the reflected delicacy of the clothing (very appropriate for the upcoming trends for Spring Summer '09).
The only problem is I cut out the image and don't remember whose show this was. If anyone knows let me know because I have searched all over the internet for this.
