A Galliano Christmas

John Galliano was requested to turn his design talents to creating a 20ft high Christmas tree to feature in the lobby of London's exclusive hotel, Claridge's.

'The Dior Tree', takes its inspiration from icy snow scenes, mixed with a tropical twist. It features sparkling leaves and orchids in silver, white and blue, as well as crystal , giving the impression of the tree being frozen. Perched among the branches are a handmade leopard, several parrots and a dragonfly.

“I am thrilled that Dior is collaborating with Claridge’s this Christmas,“ said John Galliano. “I hope to bring a twist to the traditional tree.”

The Dior tree was launched on Tuesday night (December 1st) at a cocktail reception, which featured a display of 20 vintage gowns from the Christian Dior archive, hand-picked by Galliano.

Christian Dior Fall '09 Couture

Having seen behind-the-scenes photographs of Dior himself dressing his models more than half a century ago, John Galliano took his couture collection back to the more intimate Christian Dior headquarters. The result was a show reminiscent of how the clothes were traditionally presented to clients and the press in the 'New Look' 1950s era.
A cross between 'My Fair Lady', 'and 'Moulin Rouge' , half dressed models strutted with definite emphasis on their undergarments.

Designer Elle Covers

To mark the 25th year anniversary of London Fashion Week, Elle (UK) magazine has asked 4 great British designers to create their own special edition cover. All 4 editions will be available to buy. I'll be keeping an eye out for them this month.

John Galliano's cover girl was "a rebel, a minx who refuses to conform".

Stella McCartney's was based on the t-shirt she designed for Comic Relief featuring the Beatles.

Christopher Kane decided to show the polaroids he takes before his runway shows.

Dame Vivienne Westwood did her's in the style of her Manifesto exclaiming "In these hard times - Dress Up!" (Read my previous post on graduating with Vivienne Westwood.)
