Mark Ronson for Gucci sneakers.

Gucci is launching a "pop-up" sneaker store that will travel the world selling a select range of sneakers, including a unisex city-specific pair of sneakers designed by DJ Mark Ronson. The store is said to be coming to the likes of LA, New York, London, Paris, Berlin, and Tokyo, staying at each location for only a few weeks.Despite his fashion designer sister Charlotte Ronson, some view the partnership between Gucci and the DJ an odd choice, but Ronson claims:

"I spent many, many years as an avid sneaker collector, so I wanted to make sure these Gucci shoes were truly special from an aesthetic and collectable point of view."

Celeberama!

The fashion retail industry has went celebrity daft! I'm not even going to go into details... Here are some of the more recent partnerships I can think of off hand:

(the latest rumour) Amy Winehouse for PPQ.
Beth Ditto for Evans.
Barbara Hulanicki (of Biba fame) for Topshop.
Yasmin le Bon for Wallis.
Miley Cyrus & Max Azria for Walmart.
Henry Holland for Topman.
Taylor Swift for Walmart.

I'm sure there will be a lot more in the pipe-line.

The Beth Ditto Doll.

So the Beth Ditto for Evans collection launches in July following months of consultations to create a commercial collection reflecting her personal style. It signals a brave new step in a younger direction for the plus-size brand.
But Beth couldn't make it along for the recent Autumn Winter Arcadia Press Day. Instead, Evans teased visitors by showcasing a replica doll of Beth and promotional postcards wearing 2 garments from the up and coming collection.

Apparently Beth's team decided to commission specialist doll-makers to create a one-off babydoll of her. Arcadia say that the detailing of the hand-crafted doll is indicative of the amount of passion and care that the Gossip's lead singer has put into her first clothing range.
This range is said to be very vintage and 80's pop culture inspired (check out the sequined slouch dress), particularly drawing from Ska and Two Tone.

Celebrity designing gone too far.

Okay, so we had Kate Moss for Topshop, Lily Allen for New Look, Penelope Cruz for Mango etc etc etc. And I can see why some of these "modern style icons" are chosen to "design" or at least inspire their own clothing lines, but the latest one has left me completely dumbfounded.

16 year old Miley Cyrus is to team up with Max Azria (Chairman, Designer and CEO of BCBG Azria Group) to create a junior line of clothing for..... Wal-Mart.
The trend driven collection of graphic t-shirts, bottoms and shoes will be introduced in stores and online in August, and all items will be priced lower than $20.
It makes sense that if Miley was to team up with any one designer, it would be Azria, since he has dressed her for many celebrity events. In fact, both these gorgeous Hervé Léger dresses worn by Miley were designed by Max Azria. But really, how much influence can the 16 year old Cyrus have over the design process?
